We have been working with couples all over the world for 25 years. Every year, the best Indian wedding DJs have evolved. Entertainment companies today are dedicated to helping couples, from those who know what they want to those that need guidance. In the last few years, we’ve seen Indian weddings both online and on the ground that could have benefited from the blog. We can’t do anything for them but we want to assist you with your planning.

We made this blog with our couples in the forefront of mind. The bride and groom are both South Asian (Hindu, Christian, or Muslim) in half of the Indian weddings that we DJ. We also DJ half of mixed weddings or fusions, where the bride and groom are both South Asian (Hindu, Christian, Hispanic, or Asian).

What you need to know about booking a DJ for your Indian wedding

  • These issues have been raised by couples, their family members and guests.
  • We can’t attend all of the wonderful Indian weddings around the world.
  • This blog isn’t about booking us to be at your wedding. But if you do, you can contact us here.
  • This blog will explain how to tell the difference between part-time amateur DJs and a professional DJ service.

The following 8 things to consider before hiring an Indian wedding DJ are listed in order of importance.

1. Experience

Experience is key. It is important to choose someone with experience for your wedding. Do not risk your wedding with someone who does not have the experience. Three parts make up experience. How many weddings have they performed, and how much experience have they had with weddings similar to yours? A DJ who has been djing weddings for 10 years but has mostly played at birthday parties and clubs is different from someone who only plays weddings. We just celebrated 25 years of service in the Indian wedding business. Somebody may claim to have been DJing weddings for ten years, but they only perform five weddings per annum (50 weddings over a period of 10 years). One DJ may perform that many weddings in a year. In the last five years, we have averaged 250 wedding events per year. It all comes down to whether they are able to service couples just like you. You need someone who understands the two sides of your relationship and knows how to play. Are they going to be able to play garba music and have lagan geet if you’re a Gujarati couple? Do they know the background music for a Telugu wedding? Do they know the Milk Ceremony or what happens after dinner? Hire someone who knows what they are doing and can guide you to improve it.

2. Ability (Presence Of Mind)

Experience is often confused with talent. Even though I’d like to think that talent and experience go hand in hand, it isn’t always the case. Many people fall under the exception rule. Many DJs have self-taught themselves. After a few weddings, they decide that this is the way to go. An old dog cannot be taught new tricks. Because they get stuck in the same routine, they never grow as performers. It is a true gift to have talent. You are born with some talent, but if you follow your passion and work hard to improve, that talent grows. Every week, we spend hours discussing how our weddings were, the highlights, and how to make next week’s weddings even better. This talent will improve a wedding by making it more fun, emotional or just saying something funny. See if your vendors are the right fit for you by checking out their social profiles.

3. Equipment

Are they using professional equipment? What is the setup like? Online you can view this through pictures and videos. Would you be happy if that wedding was yours? You may have found the right DJ company if you like their look, and you see people who are similar to yourself in pictures and videos having a good time. We will also give you a list of all the questions and a description of what to expect from answers. Please fill out this form so that you’re prepared. 4. The size of the team

If everything goes according to plan, the size of a group is not important. Life doesn’t always go as planned. You have no backup if the DJ is sick and works alone. Even in the worst of situations, a large team will have your back. Our experienced indian wedding djs team is one of the biggest in America. Technically, our team of 12 DJs could perform 12 weddings a day. We came close to this number with 10 weddings on a single day. Since then, we have changed our policy. We chose to have a smaller team because it would allow us to do more weddings per day. Instead, we wanted our couples’ peace of mind and stability. We only do three weddings in a day. Each wedding will have two DJs, and we also have two backup DJs on call for any emergencies. Each DJ has the necessary timelines, layouts, and music for the wedding. Everyone can rest assured that their event will be well-covered. This might not be financially the best decision for our company, but it is the best option for our couples. That’s what matters most to us. This is a photo of the majority of our DJs. We didn’t have time to get everyone before the event began. We must plan another event as soon as possible.

5. Reviews

There is a problem if they’ve been in business for more than 10 years, but you can’t locate any online reviews. You can find reviews online that were written by other users. The DJs cannot change the content. Check out WeddingWire, The Knot, Yelp and Google. Check out what other people have to say about them. You can find reviews from people you know. You can ask someone you know about their experience, and whether they recommend the same DJ. You can see their work at Maharani Weddings. Is their work featured or published somewhere? You might be able find photos or videos from events that you attended or couples that you know. Contact them a bad or unprofessional wedding DJ can ruin your weekend. Do your research and be aware of what you’re getting into.

6. Playing a list vs reading a crowd

It seems that DJs are always arguing about what they think works best. Often people work in extremes. Old school thinking dictates that you should play entirely based on your audience. They look at the crowd, and then play tracks they think will be popular to keep people on the dancefloor. Say you love hip-hop but the majority of your guests prefer Bollywood. The DJ will play Bollywood music to get more people dancing. Some people like that, but most don’t. The playlist DJ will create a list of songs based on what you like and stick to it. Now you and your friends are dancing because the DJ is playing hip-hop, but all the other guests are not because they prefer Bollywood. You have two options to fix the problem. Give your DJ the list of songs that you and your guests enjoy. You can give an approximate percentage of each music type. You will be able to have a good time and your guests will also be happy. Find a DJ who can do both. We ask our couples to choose their top 50 songs from 200. We can get an idea of what they like. Then, we prepare the list by adding songs that we think they will like based on what they have listed. This is the science side of our work. The art comes into play during the event. We closely monitor the crowd during the event, to see their reactions to the music. We select the groups we believe will dance. We know exactly what they want so once the dance floor is open, we make sure that everyone is happy.

7. Knowledge of music

Consider the type of music that you would like to hear. A Hip Hop DJ is not the best choice if you want to listen to EDM all night. Many DJs say they can play all types of music, but in reality they only focus on a select few. Consider the music genres you’d like to hear at the party. You don’t want a DJ who will play Bhangra or Hip Hop the whole night if you like American Top 40 music and Bollywood. Each person has their own music taste and speciality. Our DJs are matched with couples who have similar tastes in music. The DJ will enjoy being there, and be able to do more for the couple and the music. You can contact us here if you are looking for a DJ who knows how to play great music, and will also take good care of you.

8. Awards

DJs who go the extra mile to make their couples happy are rewarded. Over the years, we have received many awards. We have recently won the Couples Choice Award from Wedding Wire for 4 consecutive years. The Knot has also awarded us the Best of Weddings Award four years in a line. The Knot recently awarded us with the Hall of Fame Award of Excellence in Wedding Entertainment. It’s not necessary for your DJ to have won all awards. But he should have at least a few to share with you.
